Devolo AG has just taken another important step in its
development by reaching the milestone of 35 million PLC adapters sold.
Powerline adapters use your power network to transmit data, so you have
high-speed Internet access anywhere in the house.
devolo celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. The
company was founded in 2002 with the aim of simplifying the home network. The
first dLAN adapters were launched in 2003. Thanks to the involvement of devolo,
a mass market developed from a segment that was originally considered a niche,
and the products developed in Aix- la-Chapelle are used today by millions of
households across Europe. With 35 million adapters sold, devolo consolidates
its position as world leader in the PLC market.
DLAN products are constantly evolving
DLAN technology is constantly evolving. The initially modest
transmission speed of 14 Mbps has been increased to 1200 Mbps in the latest
generation of dLAN adapters. In addition, devolo products have been compatible
with Wi-Fi for many years and thus guarantee that wireless terminals, such as
tablets and smartphones, which are increasingly used, can be connected to the
Internet anywhere.
Smart WiFi technology, presented at IFA 2017, further
improves the performance of the home network. It allows devices to always be
connected to the strongest internet access point while using the highest
possible bandwidth. "The home network continues to be a growing market,
especially in the face of the growing demands of customers who want to be able
to access services requiring a lot of bandwidth at all times, such as video
streaming, music or video games" declares Heiko Harbers, President of devolo
AG.
Devolo active with the general public and professionals -
Smart Grid growth opportunity
With the general public, devolo focuses on Smart Home
solutions in addition to home networks. With Home Control, the company based in
Aachen offers a full range of products, which the customer can combine as they
wish and link them together according to simple rules to set up. This allows
users to know whether they have effectively turned off their irons, even when
they are on the move, or to adjust the room temperature remotely. In addition,
intelligent alarms in the event of movement, leakage of water and smoke alert
the user in the event of an emergency, thereby ensuring increased safety.
In the B2B market, devolo has also established another solid
base in the Smart Grid business sector. The company is developing solutions for
the smart grid of the future, in which data communication plays a key role.
Indeed, many small producers of electricity replace a small number of large
producers. Energy consumption and production must be closely coordinated, and
the new network must be monitored and controlled in real time. In addition, it
creates additional services that must be integrated into the infrastructure.
Online carrier communication is also used here - an opportunity for further
growth for the technology pioneer of Aachen.
